The attic is bustling.

Work in the attic began in full in November 2024. After clearing the space and all preparatory work, the building permit was finally issued, and a professional company could begin. The first task was to replace two inadequate skylights in the former library. The windows had previously suffered from falling ice and frost from the tower and had to be protected with metal covers during the winter. In their place, the same triangular dormers were added that are present throughout the attic, ensuring a uniform appearance from the outside (and the vertical windows in the dormers are better protected). The room will also be well-ventilated when used as a large social room.

The entire roof structure has been reinforced with added metal and wooden trusses. The original roof structure is nearly one hundred years old, and it is better to take care of it now so that it can serve longer. The beams have been nicely cleaned and will be visible in the rooms after the final installation. Thermal insulation made of mineral wool is also being added, which will certainly last for many years and will not repeat the problem of settling cellulose insulation. Currently, support structures for drywall panels are being assembled. Work is proceeding as planned. The aim is to welcome the first visitors to the accommodation spaces in the summer of 2025. Work will also be ongoing on the new social room from the former parish library. We have much to look forward to.

And why are we doing this?

We launched the project primarily due to the growing activities of the parish. Another social room is necessary, as the spaces on the ground floor are often filled with various groups whose activities overlap in time. These activities are also often linked to the need for accommodation for interesting guests who enrich the life of the parish with spiritual retreats and lectures. Financial reasons are certainly not the least among the motivations. Newly insulated spaces will prevent heat loss from the lower floors and reduce heating costs. Nice accommodation in the city center that we will offer for parish tourism in an attractive location will bring resources into the parish budget. The parish has few other sources of income, yet it remains vibrant and active.

Project Financing

Two million crowns for the planned renovations of the attic are largely secured from the parish budget. We hope to secure another million crowns from sponsors and small donors. It is common that additional needs will arise during the work that will require further attention. Additionally, furnishing with new furniture, bedding, lighting, and other small items will also incur costs. Therefore, we kindly ask for your support. Most importantly, we seek your spiritual support, prayers for the success of the project, so that it may serve the development of our parish in the future, attract interesting guests by providing a pleasant environment, and serve other purposes connected to pastoral care.
